Overload...

This week has been mad!

Work Release for hubby which means long hours of solo parenting at home, Kinder for the oldest which is: actually tiring (is he enjoying it, goodness I miss him, I wonder what he's doing now...etc)  And the youngest has been extra clingy as the oldest is no longer home. Not to mention the small mountain of sewing that needs to be done (orders precut, orders semi- sewn and orders sewn that need finishing touches lying all over the place)

 I should also include though the 'household' sewing that needs to be done:

Hubbies garden jeans - knee repair
Oldest Tshirt - arm repair
Youngest Skirt - hem repair
Hubby Shirts - 4 buttons
Youngest request for a pink dolly - "all pink mummy don't forget"
Couch pillows need zip replaced
Mum asked to fix pillowslip she bought cheap on holiday and make it into a 'nice one'...um...okay?

Now I understand I'm not alone and compared to some I've probably got it easy.  However you know how they say don't judge until you've walked in someone's shoes? Well to me I've feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment - so many balls up in the air and I don't want to drop a single one (I haven't even mentioned family commitments, friend commitments, various other job commitments that all are bearing down on me too....)

And again...not alone!  But I do feel that this time of year it hits.  When the kids go back to school and life starts taking on it's 'post Christmas/Holiday' routine again it's a little overwhelming to start with. As if the holiday season makes you forget the ability to priorities and juggle tasks.

I've got lists.  Too many lists.  Blackboards, notepads, scribbles of lists all over the place just so I don't loose track of something and forget swimming starts next week as well as gymbaroo as well as sports lessons, oh and that hubby will be late Wednesday and that 'XYZ's' order must go out Tuesday, and that Tracey is booked for dinner Thursday and that Oma is planning a visit on the weekend (so remember to clean the house and get the bedding ready!)....and....and....and

And again...not alone!

so I think I will escape for a couple of hours and sew.  Loose myself in the peace that sewing gives me for a while. Then let the reality of everything else come crashing back down.

To hot to sew? Okay - prep time!

So...hot weather we've been having huh?!

Too hot some might say for sewing? I'm not convinced – I personally managed to sew a dolly quilt while it was a blazing 45C outside;(and about 43C inside as our A/C decided that the hot weather was a good time to take a wee holiday!

I do admit though that my leather sewing chair was not a place I wanted to spend too long sitting during the high peak of the heat – I was much happier downstairs in the cool relief, resting? No PREPPING!

You see I found this last couple of weeks the perfect time to prep upcoming work. To do all those horrid jobs that we hate to do so that we can get to the fun part of actually sewing and creating something.

So this week I printed patterns, traced pieces and cut fabric. Then put everything in neat little bags ready to sew up when the weather allowed. It also gave me some much needed time to organise fabric (wash it too...dried in minutes!) and realise that I have WAAAAAAY too much fabric – though I'm not ready to 

admit to an addiction just yet!

So the heat may have been horrible and long lasting – but it wasn't unbearable. Sewing days are planned now in advance and all those little jobs that would have taken half my sewing time away from me are already done! So next time a hot front is forecast...close the blinds, draw the curtains, look out the patterns and prep prep prep x

I would like to send a special thanks to the wonderful fire fighters who in my books are true hero's for what they do everyday and while I was busy prepping they were busy saving lives – Thankyou! ♥
